I have always been an old school person. I always love to read hard bound books which I can touch, I can feel, I can even smell. Few years ago, due to serious space crunches in my place and adapting with the changing time, I got a TABLET (new age gadget) for myself where I uploaded an app to read books/journals etc.

Often there was this war inside, a constant question, ‘How can a screen replace pages?’

To me, it can’t and will never!

At times there was one image, an animated one, which used to rotate back in my online searches. This reflected a tired kid from the back with a caption ‘My screen is brighter than my future’! Alas, that was so true and has affected me hugely….

Cut to, year 2019, the odd times of Covid and the major lockdown! The lives were topsy-turvy, unsure, unknown and confused. The virtual world became real, the reality turned out as an unseen fate. During these hours the virtual world got reflected through Screens. These screen time saved millions, both adults & children. However, screens had a greater impact on the children and their lives…On a literal note Screens took over the Pages, Desks & Classrooms, and the overall Education media.

Now, on a serious note we adults can’t thank these screens enough for the children’s career. Today the screens are everywhere, including in the palms of our hands. On the other hand children see how much time we adults spend on our smartphones, tablets and therefore how much we seem to value these devices. Not only the teachers & educators teach children through virtual games & play, they at times also model appropriate behaviour with technologies. Basically the screen has become the medium of imparting knowledge.

However, we must be cautious with the screen time we spend. If it crosses a limit it affects our eyes.

Let’s be handy with a few quick and easy practices as a self-care steps which can help take some of the strain off your eyes. Also do check at intervals, notice and control how the kids look into the screen, utilize them, so that it balances and maintains the limit of the screen time.
